OUR MISSION STATEMENT

We work hard to offer opportunities and guidance that will enhance and structure young people’s education, training, employment needs and social lives so that they are better equipped to take an active role in all aspects of their community.

We empower young people and provide opportunities, we enhance life chances and we have created positive effects in the community, showing and promoting young people in a positive way and encouraging society to accept young people in the way we all hope to be accepted.

Corporate document for Young People March Ltd (YPM)

YPM (Young People March) is a not-for-profit charity, the charity was set up in 1995 by local councillors and residents of March. The vision was to provide the town with a community facility for all young people in and around March.

YPM continues to offer a well-established youth facility and provision for young people. YPM has evolved into a striving community business that offers youth clubs and a centre for education.

We believe society should ensure all children and young people receive the support they need to make a fulfilling transition to adulthood. We also believe some young people face more barriers than others, our work often highlights the experiences that some of these marginalised young people experience.

We believe that providing a universal provision our organisation, can make wise, bold decisions about how best to support all young people.

YPM youth clubs

YPM youth clubs and drop-in sessions are to support young people aged 7 to 21 years, these sessions are based around young people enjoying and achieving.  Allowing children and young people to take part in and benefit from a variety of activities that meet their needs and develop and reflect their creative, cultural, intellectual, physical and social interests and skills.

The youth clubs/drop-in sessions, run all year round, trained staff deliver these sessions with the help of young volunteers. Our younger children benefit from activities in arts and crafts, sports, team games, cooking and socialising with friends.

The older children visiting the centre benefit from any guidance and support they may require especially if they are facing any difficult times in their lives. We can support with advice or sign post them onto the relevant professional. The young people can socialise with friends and stay safe.

Education

In 2021 YPM became a quality assured Alternative education provision (AEP). YPM offers a community-based education setting, working with children of all ages who need extra support to overcome challenges in their lives.

Part of our role as an AEP(Alterative education provider) is to equip the young people with skills and attitudes to gradually be reinstated back into, mainstream education.

We report attendance daily to the young person’s school role, we monitor track and report on the young person’s performance daily,

The young people we are likely to support include children/young people who.

  • Are exposed to difficult home situations and may be on the radar of Social Services
  • Struggle with mental health issues including self-harm, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.
  • Have been or are involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Are engaged in anti-social or risk-taking behaviour.
  • Are at risk of exclusion, excluded, or disengaged from mainstream education.

  • Are young carers.
  • Looked after young people.
  • cannot cope with the school environment.
  • Can not find a placement in schools (maybe a Looked after child (LAC) coming into the area)
  • Have Special educational needs.

We follow a process of where CCC (Cambridgeshire County Council) send referrals onto every AEP, managers look at the referrals to see whether we can offer support to these young people. We put in a bid highlighting what we can offer the specific young person. These bids can be 0ne to one support or two to one (2 staff one young person)

We offer Pastoral care/softer learning (including wellbeing, self-esteem, emotional intelligence and character development through a range of activities including sports, games cookery, team games, and crafts etc)

  • Improved confidence and self esteem
